History

Under the tutelage of Padmashree Dr. Rajendra T. Vyas, the visionaries of Vidyamandir, Shri Kanubhai Mehta and Shri Suryakantbhai Parikh, decided to develop a school that would harbour, educate, and enable special children. This was after they observed that even though such children deserved an education and a respectable life, they were denied even these basic rights by the society that viewed them only through the lens of their “disabilities”. They realised that people’s pity was only discouraging such children from discovering their gifts. After all, there is a reason why they are known as the specially-abled.

Our Patron

Shri Thakorlal Keshavlal Mehta knew the value of a mother only too well as he had lost his own at a very young age. When he got to know of this project, he was only too happy to fund it. Thus, Vidyamandir built the Shri Menaben Keshavlal Mehta Pragnyachakshu Vidyalaya in 1963 in the honour of the donor’s beloved mother. Since its formation, this school has not just prepared but actually mothered numerous students whose parents had no hope for their future, and this gave rise to a group of institutions that form the Mamtamandir of Vidyamandir.
