History
In 1974-75, our Trust realised that there was no awareness regarding early childhood education in North Gujarat, nor was there a training college in Banaskantha, Mehsana, or Sabarkantha to train teachers for the course. Nobody had a clue about how to develop such a curriculum. The reason behind the shortage of preschool professionals was that people hardly saw the significance of the foundation level. Consequently, enlightening parents regarding this has become equally vital. It struck our management that if aspirants received training within the kindergartens of Vidyamandir, they would gain experience with quality education. The thought marked the beginning of our mission to instigate a systematic course for pre-primary teaching.
Our JourneyInitially, our early childhood education college did not even have the infrastructure to function. Moreover, finding professors and trainees was also a major challenge. In June 1976, Shri Sureshbhai Mehta presented the needed financial aid to the college through his organisation, Shri Suresh-Saroj Charitable Trust, in the loving memory of his grandfather, Shri Kalidasbhai Jethubhai Mehta, a campaigner for education himself. Despite that, the principal’s post took years to get an official nod from the government. One of the visionaries of Vidyamandir, Shri Kanubhai Mehta, took great interest in the success of the venture. He and the management made continuous efforts to build a proper course with appropriate assessment and evaluation techniques. They never knew that they would also pave the way for the other institutions of Gujarat when their endeavours finally paid off with the help of the then Secretary of the Education Department, Miss Prabhaben Dave.
Curriculum Highlights
With years of continuous development, the course consists of child psychology, the principles and methods of preschool education, child nutrition, language development, problem-solving skills, mathematics, environmental science, home science, beautification, arts and crafts, internships, workshops, seminars, and tours. The trainees also learn to create stories, rhymes, plays, games, various teaching-learning materials, handicrafts, and puppets.
Our Initiatives
Apart from offering education, the college hosts several awareness programmes for mothers and women from all walks of life to empower them. At the end of these programmes, our trainees assist illiterate attendees in filling out forms for the facilities and grants they need. Their active participation in these drives helps them understand the diversity of the role of teachers that is, by no means, limited to teaching in classrooms.
Accreditation and Admission
We have been recognised by NCTE, Bhopal, since 2001. All our students receive 100% placement assistance. The minimum academic qualification for admissions is Senior Secondary (HSC), with 50% for the general category and a 5% relaxation for others. Boarding facilities are available for students.
