There wouldn’t have been a Vidyamandir if it was not for Shri Kantilal Chhotalal Mehta, fondly known as Kanubhai. His revolutionary ideas and philanthropy have always enlightened people.
He was born in Calcutta in 1921 but was partly educated in Palanpur. He established himself as an entrepreneur at the age of 20 after moving to Mumbai. His company, M/s. Kantilal Chhotalal still tells the tale of his resolution and dedication. Besides that, he co-founded the Palanpur Samaj Kendra in Mumbai that aims at bringing all Mumbai-based Palanpuris together for various noble causes. In 1948, he gifted North Gujarat a unique education institution called the Palanpur Shishushala Balmandir, which later expanded into Vidyamandir Trust, Palanpur. With another remarkable educationist, Shri Suryakantbhai Parikh, aboard, Vidyamandir became the hub for anybody who wanted to gain an education. Irrespective of people’s caste, creed, physical, or financial condition, this Trust has always given wings to aspirants who wished to explore their abilities and defy their limitations. Today, Kanubhai's son, Shri Ashishbhai Mehta carries on this legacy.
Even after 29 years of his departure, Kanubhai still dazzles and inspires people with his benevolence. Vidyamandir and its people will always be indebted to him.
