Kanubhai is a name that one can never miss out while talking about Vidyamandir. Shri Kantilal Chhotalal Mehta, fondly known as Kanubhai, was born in Calcutta in 1921. He received a part of his education from Palanpur, and ever since, he had been indebted to the city.
His philanthropy has always been a boon to many. Even as a child, he never thought twice before lending a helping hand to those in need. At the tender age of 20 he decided to relocate to Mumbai from Calcutta. His company, M/s. Kantilal Chhotalal mirrors his dedication and hard work as an entrepreneur. Likewise, Vidyamandir is a reflection of his service to society. He was one of the founders of Palanpur Samaj Kendra, Mumbai to bind all the Palanpuris in the city together. And in 1948, his love for Palanpur gave it the gift of one of the most renowned institutions of North Gujarat, which is Vidyamandir. He established Palanpur Shishushala Balmandir (now called Vidyamandir trust, Palanpur) and sought the help of another visionary, Shri Suryakantbhai Parikh, to enliven his dream. Today, his legacy continues with the same determination he had, by his son, Shri Ashishbhai Mehta.
We can never be grateful enough to him on his 28th Death Anniversary for leaving us such a treasure of knowledge in the form of Vidyamandir with his vision, benefactions, and mostly, love.
