‘Mamtamandir’- the word signifies an abode of care and affection and it truly is such a place for the hundreds of children with special needs studying and residing here.

The Trust believes that every individual of the society has a right to live respectfully, but it has long been seen that the people with physical handicaps are shunned by the society. They have to be dependent on their immediate family all their life. So with an aim to provide education and skills that would help the physically challenged become self-reliant and get rehabilitated in the society the foundation of Smt. Menaben Keshavlal Mehta Pragnachakshu Vidyalaya (School for the Visually Impaired) was laid in 1963.

Today about 294 children with special needs (in the age group 5 to 14 years), physically challenged, the visually impaired, mentally challenged and hearing impaired, are admitted to Mamtamandir institutes. The institutes have all the modern facilities which cater to the special needs of these children, including Braille-library, Speech-Therapy room, Physiotherapy centre, Braille-Computer Lab, Science Lab, Workshops, Audiometric room, Multimedia room,  Audio-Visual room and computer labs for Computer Aided Learning. A special Sports Academy is also under construction.

To provide vocational training to the children studying at Mamtamandir, there are workshops to learn Printing, Canning, Toy making, Screen Printing, Box-making, Wax-work, Carpentry, Light engineering, Binding, Moulding, Pottery, Knitting, Painting and Sewing.

The Academic and the vocational training provided at Mamtamandir leads to easier integration and rehabilitation of these children into the society once they leave the institute.
